Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: In the first episode, Marie is invited to go with Luke, Andre, Cate, and Jordan to a nightclub in Manhattan. When Andre accidentally cuts a woman's throat while trying to show off his powers to another girl, Marie steps in and uses her powers to save the woman's life. Despite being successful in her efforts, she is set up to be expelled and act as a scapegoat because all the other guys are either well-connected (Andre and Jordan) or the school's star pupil (Luke and by consequence his girlfriend) and it would be a mess if the press got to know that they were outside partying and doing drugs and their recklessness resulted in a near-fatal accident, while Marie does not have such protection and her power isn't really marketable. Science fiction aside, this feels like something that could realistically happen in school.
This doesn't seem to fit the trope, as I don't see how a big media cover-up is "surprisingly realistic." On the contrary, it seems elaborate and the kind of thing that drives drama.
