What is the trope for the expert being freaked out by the thing they're the expert in? In Episode 9, both Bryan and Grace seemed to be incapable of handling that the magic-tech is doing magic-tech things. He seemed to be incapable of saying, "The debris in the ocean seems to have shifted me into an alternate reality." Instead, he feels the need to hide it and obfuscate it. And she seemed to be incapable of understanding, "The debris in the ocean seems to have caused a bizarre effect." Instead, she immediately jumps to him being insane or going rogue. This despite the fact that they have spent years chasing bits of debris and witnessing first hand the bizarre effects it causes.

This is the same thing as Ron in the Prisoner of Azkaban at the end: He sees Hermione loop her necklace around Harry and then fiddle with a charm. They disappear and then immediately come bursting back into the room through the door. And for some reason, he's freaked out about this. It's *MAGIC,* Ron. You know...the thing you've been around your entire life and is the primary subject of the school you've been attending for the past three years.

This happens a lot where someone who should be quite familiar with something, even if they don't know all the specific details, is for some reason absolutely flabbergasted by it.
