I was the one who removed that. For one, it presents itself as a mere speculation "there may actually be a reason...". Secondly, its placement as an extension of another entry violated Example Indentation. Even if it's something really necessary for the understanding of the entry it was responding to, what was hard about just adding it within the entry's paragraph? Why putting it as a separate entry? And thirdly, the wording gets too conversational ("Where does he wipe it? On his thigh, like most people are apt to? Nope. He wipes it on his ass!"). And it ends with another speculation ("it is likely that his hand is dirty when he holds it out").

Yeah, I know, speculation belongs in the discussion page. And, really, I probably should have put it here in the first place because it has been a long time since I played the game and was not really sure if my memories served me right. On that second point, I get a little uncomfortable with tacking entries into an already existing example and was not aware of the rules on indentation (which I looked up in the process of writing this response). On the third point, it was an attempt to be a little amusing with the entry in the case of that first quote (the whole "wipe on his ass") thing.
Since you've decided to address the topic, do you believe that my addition to the entry would have been appropriate if I had not made the above mistakes? Because I'm not opposed to editing out all the speculation (and getting rid of the wordy and unnecessary stupidity that was a failed attempt at humor).
First off, there's no need for Self-Deprecation ("and getting rid of the wordy and unnecessary stupidity that was a failed attempt at humor". What was that, man?). Of course you can add this back if you can eliminate the issues I've shown. For starters. Add it within the same paragraph as that of the original entry. And focus on information about the gag and try to reduce the speculation (you can start by removing the ambiguous wording, such as "there may be" or "it's likely". Remember that Examples Are Not Arguable =).).

I had put this on the page a few days ago, but after someone deleted it for natter, I realized that this might not even belong on the Running Gags page, even though it explains a running gag and may be considered a running gag itself for Final Fantasy VIII (I'm unsure; I only ever caught Zell wiping his hand a couple times). Any thoughts as to where this could go?

Where does he wipe it? On his thigh, like most people are apt to? Nope. He wipes it on his ass! Right in front of whoever he's going to shake hands with! Even when he doesn't do it, it is likely that his hand is dirty when he holds it out, thus forever preventing him from ever shaking anyone's hand."
