There are tropers who are adding that Daenerys is attempting to manipulate Sansa when she comes to her to speak. I think this is an inaccurate phrasing as Daenerys doesn't appear to be trying to manipulate Sansa. In the Inside the Episode video, Benioff states, "Dany comes to Sansa with a bit of an olive branch trying to find a way inside that kind of cool exterior that Sansa presents and one commonality between them is that they both love Jon."

Likewise, the dialogue in the scene doesn't indicate to me that Dany is trying to manipulate Sansa. She's not lying or twisting facts in order to sway Sansa to her side, nor is she trying to sway Sansa by telling her "she needs smart people on her side". She's explaining why she wanted Tyrion as her hand.

Thus, I think the term 'manipulate' should be removed from describing Dany's interaction with Sansa here. However, I could be missing something obvious. What are other thoughts on this?

Yeah, can we please stop the Dany bashing. Until the series clearly and unambiguously presents her as a villain (i.e. killing Sam, Bran, and Jon because they know too much) quit bashing the character...

It is egregious at this point. Just as she is susceptible to not thinking about the consequences of her actions, it's also been shown in the show that she is indeed capable of tremendous kindness when called upon. It's not like she is an unrepentant despot.

Yeah. While all characters are subject to criticism, have their flaws, valid points, good traits, I think it's become a bit too speculative on Dany's actions without enough support to come to some conclusions. However, I see the 'manipulate' wording has been since removed :) Hopefully, we can be fair to all characters.

I don't like Dany, and calling that "manipulation" is true in only the most literal sense.

Like, she seems to be genuinely be trying to find common ground and isn't lying.

Granted, she is explicitly doing it at the advice of Jorah and she's doing it for practical reasons, but she's also making a genuine effort, you know?

I think the worst you can say about it is that Sansa saw it as manipulating.

Yeah, I can definitely agree with that.
