Recap Doctor Who NSS 4 E 6 The Doctors Daughter Discussion

Ok I'll bite. Why hasn't there been any noting of this character as any kind of Sue or of their being a broken base or anything? She screams for it. I have no problem with the Doctor having a daughter but the way they introduce this character is way too convenient and too many issues are sidestepped in the interest of just getting that character on screen.

I only just watched this. Not that invested in The Doctor myself though he is growing on me but I double checked with friends who were Who fans and said "is it just me or was she kind of a Sue?" and they all strongly agreed.

Cmon! Opposite Sex Clone neatly gets around any paternity or marital baggage as well as having to explain why she wasn't wiped out by the Daleks, and yet the machine, which should now be a programmable super-soldier time-lord factory, is conveniently never used again? And all the objections are met with a hearty shrug and no real discussion (the closest we get is The Doctor saying "You are an echo." Which is overruled. Which gets into another issue that needed to be addressed. If there's this method of producing brand new genetically randomized time lords when the Doctor is the last, why isn't HE using it. If the daughter is valid then there's your valid method for recreating the Gallifreyian species. If its not valid then neither is the daughter and we need to ask why.)

I give up.

Yeah, she's so... Sue-ish to me. But I make a point not to post stuff like that since I rather despise Donna so I kind of assume my thoughts are against the mainstream when it comes to Doctor Who.

Oh, plus her Regeneration... not actually causing a change in actress. Granted they did the same thing with Tennant in the finale, but at least they bothered with a handwave (I'm so sorry). Jenny's actress being the Fifth Doctor's actor's actual daughter makes it seem like Creator's Pet something fierce.

On the regeneration; there is a theory she was brought back to life by the Source, rather than it actually being a regeneration. I heard that there was some suggestion of this from an official source, but I can't confirm that.

She was just born, so it's probably the same as being in the first 24 hours of a regeneration cycle and Good Thing You Can Heal was in play because of it (''handy'', indeed).

Jenny's talk to the Doctor in the cell, about him being a soldier as well, mirrors what River Song says to him in a Good Man Goes to War. Foreshadowing?

Removed this:

  • She is, however, returning in the current series, played by a different actress. (She is technically a Time Lord, after all.)

Isn't returning, or isn't a Time Lord?
