Re Gholam: I'm not positive that Gholam are meant to be Robert Jordan's version of vampires, "different" or otherwise, despite the blood drinking. The similarity in name to Golem seems too close (though that would open up a can of Our Golems Are Different worms even if one goes back to folklore, leave alone more popular recent sources, since this Gholam can talk.)
