I think it does. Generally, no one mentions a trail of footprints in fiction unless there is an intent to follow them.

Does trail of foot prints count? I though the trope was about a trail the person leaves on purpose, so that either they can follow it back, or somebody can follow it up to them.
I don't think a person has any choice whether to leave a trail of footprints or not. What you say?
