In my family, New Year's Day was always a much bigger deal than New Year's Eve. Probably because (1) we don't drink, (2) the antics of the sodden-drunk don't amuse us, and (3) my grandmother was born on New Year's Day.
Now, I have a New Year's Eve ritual: I go to bed well before midnight.
I also have a New Year's Day ritual: I don't go anywhere near a television set until the last Rose Parade rebroadcast is over.
I am born on January 8th. Guess if I escape this curse. The answer is no.
