I think the examples where the pantomime animal is supposed to be a real animal in-universe and those where it is people in suits in-universe too should be separated.

I'm not sure that "in-universe" should be used as the dividing line, since some of the examples are characters acting in Show Within a Show plays.

I think it should be, provided that you recognise the distinction and stop at the base level universe, not considering the in-universe play.
