  • Well, not entirely. Red-hair and blonde hair are European traits, and historically, Mongols and Turks had relations with the Slavic populations that lived near them (in the Mongolians' case, this was especially common in the areas north of the current capitol, Ulaanbator, where Temujin was born). If indeed he had red-hair, it would obviously mean he had at least one European in his family line.

Neither red hair nor blonde hair are uniquely European traits. Red hair is simply brown hair (as in Asian black hair) with more yellow in it. It's caused by genes and recessive traits. [1] The concentration of red hair in locals is dependent on the climate (mostly cold weather, and Mongolia is very cold), and is not a 'European trait'. [2]

Genetic mutations do not 'originate' from a certain ethnic group. Although the bit about Mongolians having close relationships with Slavs is true, the rest is not.

Genghis Khan had neither red hair, nor green eyes. According to his portrait by Yuan court artists, as posted in his Wikipedia article, he, like all other Mongolians, had black hair and dark brown eyes.

None of those pictures were made in his lifetime and can hardly be thought to be accurate.

Did you even read that article? Almost every account of the man by Islamic scholars describe him and his ancestors as 'long bearded, red-haired and green eyed'.

Oh, and another thing - that picture by Yuan artists was not only made long after he was dead, but also depicts him as an OLD MAN.

"Like all Mongolians, he had black hair and brown eyes". Seriously man, there's a bloody video in the article showing flesh-and-blood Mongolians with red hair. Hell, there are Mongols with blonde hair and blue eyes, they're a Eurasian people right next to Slavic populations. And anyway, he was from the north of the Mongolia, not terribly far from the current capital, where interbreeding with Europoids would have been relatively common.

I'd like that vid taken down though, if only due to the fact the guy who made it is blindingly racist.

Korm, DNA studies of Genghis Khan shows that he didn't have any Caucasian ancestry at all. Neither red hair nor blonde hair are uniquely Caucasian features. Red hair is simply brown hair (as in Asian black hair) with more yellow in it. It's caused by genes and recessive traits. The concentration of red hair in locals is dependent on the climate (mostly cold weather, and Mongolia is very cold), and is not a 'European trait'. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1288200/

Also, the average Mongolian today is only has 17% to zero percent of White genes on average (this means there exist 100% Asians with blonde hair and blue eyes in that region.) That's way too low to be considered Eurasian (which they don't even call themselves that, just Asian). That like calling all African Americans mulatto (when they are only have 18% White blood on average).

And finally, their is nothing "blindingly racist" about that video at all.

Russia wasn't conquered by Genghis Khan! It was conquered by the Mongols after his death, under the rule of Ogodei Khan. Want me to correct this?
