I pulled this:

  • There is supposedly a gay mafia on Will & Grace and Jack has supposedly run afoul of them. Will doesn't believe it until he's confronted by their leader, played by (who else?) Elton John.

The term "gay mafia" doesn't mean actual gangsters. It just means a supposed organised group of gay people who use their influence to gain power. (And there's no suggestion the gay mafia in Will and Grace are criminals.) Similar constructs include the "Scottish mafia" that supposedly controlled British politics in the Blair era and the "Tafia", the idea that organised Welsh-language speakers have undue influence in Wales.

A-yup. That's Square Peg Round Trope fitting the name but not the actual trope.

I removed that Gundam example. Both characters are gay, but neither seems to be a gangster. Celestial Being and whatever Alleandro's group called itself are pretty much terrorists, but they don't seem to be involved in any "other" criminal activities like drug dealing, robberies, and such. Come to think of it, both the protagonists and antagonists seemed to depend a lot on funding from wealthy allies.
