I guess this is the peril of a Character Named Trope: Has there ever been an occurrence on The Simpsons where any character, let alone Ned, displays behaviors from the early seasons that would be utterly out if character now? (Perhaps Homer having some competence displayed such as he did in Season 1 episodes could be a start... A prankster!Lisa in the past 10 years would be a good second step...)

Ran from Detective Conan usually ends up standing in the background of episodes either meant to scream at dead bodies, or stand in Conan's way so he doesn't stick out too much. We tend to forget that she's captain of the school Karate club until she shows up to kick ass.
We also tend to forget that she's not stupid. She has figured out that Conan is Shinichi several times before, but after seeing both people in the same place, (Ai was disguised as Conan during the episode), it's kind of hard to argue against them being the same person.
How is this any different from Character Check?
