So basically, the universe we are living in (and all fiction created within) can be considered the worst-case scenario. If it didn't go wrong, it couldn't have gone wrong then, though it could and probably will still go wrong later.
That's actually not the correct definition of Murphy's Law. Finagle's Law is actually a corollary to Murphy's. Murphy's is stated "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong," where Finagle's is "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, in the worst possible way" (which can be restated as the page quote). Not sure how to go about rewriting the article though.
