Shouldn't this be a more gender neutral trope? Numerous examples from the TV series Spartacus and the co-ed shower scene from Battlestar Galactica movie come to mind.
Hide / Show RepliesI think Michael Welker, the Toga Waiter in "Drop Dead Fred," would count as a male version of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZavWxD3SoX4
Youtube link no longer works, but I know the scene you are talking about. I changed the wording of the trope description to point out while this once was essentially an Always Female trope, more male examples have been showing up lately. Still, I think the ratio of female to male fanservice extras in film is still probably 10 to 1.
Officially launched. Since this is my first page, it took a little bit of trial and error for me to figure out some formatting issues. The content as of this moment (7:30 pm, July 11th 2010) is the same as what appeared on YKTTW at launch.

Everyone Has An Important Job To Do
A while back, someone helpfully added to the main description that a lot of fanservice extras come from more of a modeling background than an acting background. A number of comedies from the 80s and 90s used recent Playboy playmates or Penthouse pets for these roles. I think it would be useful to illustrate this point by mentioning when the fanservice extra has done modeling of this type. See the edits I made to the entries for Easy Money, The Hollywood Knights, The Nutty Professor 2, Used Cars, and Weird Science for examples.
