"Eureka" is far better known and older. (And funnier, with the image of a naked old guy running through the streets.)

One theory is that the subconscious is moving things around, trying to sort things out and figure out the problem, and the EM jolts things into position or moves a piece (final or not) into place, figuring things out and solving the current issue.

I don't understand why they had to make up a buffy speak phrase for this when there's already a perfectly good word for the exact same thing; "epiphany".
