Batman Begins; Ra's Al Ghul "died" in the movie adaptation. However, genre-savvy Batman asks "did anyone find a body?" Does this trope STILL apply to source-material characters who are known for cheating death, and the "no body found" trope is invoked?

Lex Luthor is a complicated case. I thought about adding some of this to the entry, but it's too confusing. In the comics, Lex "dies", but actually has his brain transferred into a clone. Eventually he returns as Lex Luthor II, and later still we find out the truth. Lois And Clark uses elements of this plot, and then promptly has Clone!Lex Killed Off for Real. Smallville seems to have Lex killed off for real, teases this plot with LX and the clone who turned out to be Kon-El, and finally brings Lex back (through different means) in the finale.
So is this Death by Adaptation, or an Adaptation Distillation of a very complicated death-and-return story?
