Is that last sentence even true? I'm no legal expert, but by simple googling I can't find any sources agreeing that Civil Law jurisprudence is more likely to rule out self-defense than Common Law jurisprudence.

Guess what, this trope is often used by American police to go after black bullying victims instead of white bullies. After all, American police have long treated blacks as Acceptable Targets.
