There are real hazards to this technique, but lighting your insides on fire isn't one of them. You can burn tongue and roof of your mouth, and it will probably feel severe enough to make you regret it, but with the amount of actual damage possible and the rate of regeneration of the mouth's interior, it's nothing you can't recover in a week or two. Burning lips and facial hair is more likely and more painful, not to mention more embarrassing since the damage will show on your face for much longer, but it'll extinguish too quickly to become life-threatening. The real danger would be from setting clothing on fire, your own or others.
Should Bender of Futurama be mentioned in the Western Animation section? He doesn't use it as a weapon, but he routinely belches flames after refueling with alcohol.
