For the Mass Effect 3 entry, I didn't see Thessia as that big a deal. Ok, I'm in love with Liara... or my character is... ahem... and I share her pain, but everywhere got the crap blown out of it. Why would Thessia be any different? For me, the gloomiest, darkest level was the return to Earth at the end of the game. There's a bit with no enemies where you walk around and you can talk to people. You're essentially saying goodbye to all the friends you've made over the past four years... or the friends your character has made... ahem...
