World of Warcraft is a bit complicated, because the game must also cater to people playing alone. Which means they have to do everything by themselves. Even without a healing magic per se, everybody has access to bandages, and potions, that of course, you need to learn to craft.
The hunter, once upon a time, could use his pet as a tank even without being a Beast Master spec (and there were 3 types of pets to match), and there was a specific skill that healed the pet, that cost almost nothing, or a type of resource (focus?) that the Hunter had to spare. Yes, it was broken, and the class was the king of solo content for a long while. Blood spec Death Knights and Paladins took turns as solo content viable classes when their skills were unbalanced, which happened very often as well... who knows what is possible these days...
