This trope shows up in quite a few Magical Girl animes where during the course of the show, the protagonists acquire a new and improved set of weapons and armour (complete with a new Transformation Sequence). This is especially true in series that span multiple seasons: After enjoying considerable time in the spotlight during the previous season, the original equipment will quickly be upgraded at the start of the new season after they are proved to be ineffective against the new villains.
