I have noticed the below trend in how people view this trope in literature, and I've seen quite a few published authors get accused of what I've written below, so I thought that it's something that author/creators might just like to be aware of, just in case they get stung by it:

"For the aspiring author looking to write a gay character, this trope can become a double-edged sword. If you write the character as being in a monogamous relationship, you will be accused of taking an unrealistic, overly-romantic or even heteronormative view of homosexual relationships. If you write the character as having multiple partners, you will be accused of pandering to this trope and buying into a stereotype. The solution...?"

I thought this was something (or an addendum of the idea if someone wants to edit it further) that might be worthwhile to be on the main page, considering it's how this trope affects works of fiction. I have discussed this with other people who agree that this does tend to happen, but if it really seems like it doesn't fit in the page or this doesn't seem true on a wider scale, of course please delete or change to fit.

Wallace Wells form the Scott Pilgrim series of graphic novels is a prime example of this. He ends up flipping several of the minor characters.
