I'm pretty certain he does. He's in every other book, and you'd definitely expect him in a book about an active War. I think he has a conversation with Polly at some point, but it's been a while since I read it.

Page 217 in my version of the book. He rather cheerfully tells her that he's just a hallucination. It's left somewhat up in the air whether he was actually there or not.
Somebody remind me, does Death appear in Monstrous Regiment?
