They don't 'meander' they go where they're sent :-) I didn't get to 'meander' when I was in the military, I don't think many other people get to, either. Working for a corp is almost exactly like being in the military.

Also, Raj volunteered for special service, so did Dialene. Everyone gets to fight in the war, you don't volunteer for it. Again, it's like the military, you don't get asked, you get told.

in regards to 'happiness in slavery': I find this one to be the most interesting, because there is another trope buried underneath that, which I had planned when I first wrote these stories. But I wonder sometimes if anyone has figured it out, (I have been asked about it before) and I thought I'd made it pretty obvious. No I won't mention it here, because there is a story associated with it that I will (hopefully) write someday.

Raj is not an ace pilot. Wondering how that got there. Nowhere in the novel is he referred to as such.
