I take issue with the Hinchliffe/Holmes eulogising in the Doctor Who section - it's repeating fandom myth itself as the show was not as popular as rose coloured glasses pretend it is - to use an example, the now-sainted "Genesis of the Daleks" was beaten in the ratings by ITV.

I'm not sure about the Friends example, which calls it a misconception that Chandler "was originally going to be gay", pointing out there's no sign of him being gay in the show. That's not quite the same thing, is it? "Originally going to be" sounds like a development thing. I don't know if the writers ever intended him to be gay or not, but the fact they knew he wasn't by the time they came to filming doesn't disprove it.
To use an example I'm more familiar with, it's absolutely true that the creators of Doctor Who didn't originally intend Susan to be the Doctor's granddaughter. They'd decided she was before they even made the unaired pilot, but originally she wasn't going to be.
