I honestly think that Adellaide knew the truth the whole time. I don't think the movie tried to say that she forgot about what happened in her childhood, I figure she just tried to push it behind her.
not to get too into the weeds here, but how do we feel about adding stuff like "scary black man" and "scary black woman" to these characters when, uh...most of the cast is black? there are some pretty gnarly and bad implications to doing that?
