Yeah... I said elsewhere on the Internets that I felt sorry for Tarrlok, but not Amon. Considering Amon's predeliction to plaster his enmasked visage everywhere, he was on an ego trip too.

Ok, I think Amon is being way too white washed. His backstory rather heavily implies that he may be in it for power, not for well intentions.
Tarrlok says he relished the power Bloodbending gave him.
We outright see him force a group of wolves to bow down to him with bloodbending.
His speech to his father and brother heavily implies he's a Social Darwinist.
He could easily be a Well-Intentioned Extremist, but the show isn't clear whether he is or not.
