Does Ozpin count as a Chessmaster?

Should we add Leader to Ozpinā€™s folder by any chance I mean he is the leader of the secret group that protects the world from Salem and his forces.

Would Ozpin count as a God Emperor in one of his previous reincarnations? He and Salem were once the rulers of a kingdom where all their followers worshiped them viewing them as godlike beings.

Actually, forget my response, I didn't realise the trope also covered people who were faking or mistaken for gods. Yes, both Salem and Oz would count as the trope.

So I think Oz and Oscar count as a heroic example of Poisonous Captive, since when they're captured by Salem they use the opportunity to undermine her inner circle and cause Emerald and Hazel to defect, but I'm not sure which of their folders it should go in

I'd say no. I had a look at the draft of the trope, and the subject of heroes was raised (specifically Batman or other Guile Heroes). The trope creator dismissed it as the trope was about the corrupting influence of villains. They felt heroes should go under Talking Your Way Out.

I see that someone added Guile Heroes to the trope description in 2021, which is expanding the original intent of the trope. I'm going to take this to the Trope Description clean-up thread and see what they think about it.

At the moment the captive scene is covered by a Defiant Captive entry. Have a look and see whether Talking Your Way Out would also apply.

So the reasons listed for Talking Your Way Out on how they can get them seem to be based off of selfishness, but if it covers non-selfish ways of getting them to turn on each other then I think it covers it

Hm. Well, in the case of Ozpin versus Hazel, that's how Ozpin started — he played on Hazel's insecurities and mistrust to make him question what he was doing with Salem, how the evils perpetrated in her name make him feel deep down inside, and what Salem was really up to. He outright pointed out that Hazel's justification isn't about obtaining justice, it's about selfishly indulging his own desires.

I don't see why not.
