I don't think so. As I understand, a Breakout Character has to be a minor character whose popularity made the writers/production to make him/her a main character.
Yu, alongside NijiGaku, has always been marketed as the main characters of Anigasaki.

Does Yu Takasaki count as a Breakout Character? Sure, she's the main character of the anime at least, but being based off of what was originally a self-insert in a mobage (albeit one with personality and was her own character), she was surprisingly popular enough
to
spawn
her
own
merch
(a rarity among protagonists from her genre), gets to be featured together
in
collabs
with
the Niji girls despite ostensibly not being a school idol herself, and was able to arguably match her friends in terms of popularity in the fanbase.
But can she be counted as an example of one?
