Shadow, I think you're 100% correct. In the second film, he straight-up tells Helen that when he meets the other guests going to Miles' island, he's going to get to the dock early and really play up the "southern hokum" to catch everyone off-guard.

I would consider Linda the Tooken Good Teammate not Meg. Meg revealed Marta's illegal status Linda did nothing wrong.

It is heavily implied Linda was one of the many family members who not only pushed Meg into revealing it, but into making a phone call begging for support she was ashamed of.

Benoit definitely deserves the 'Obfuscating Stupidity' trope. We see many moments of him being incredibly dim or even outright stupid or unobservant throughout the movie... and yet he seemed to know what was going on in general, at least until the final twist of the movie, which even he seemed shocked by. The only explanation I can come up with is that he's playing dumb, so people will under-estimate him and let things slip, because they don't expect him to be able to connect the dots.
