Cruel Mercy: What sparing him in the ending likely is. While Jin does it because he can’t stand the idea of killing his family Shimura will be publicly disgraced for his failure and lives knowing his nephew will be hunted down for the rest of his life. For someone as honor bound and dutiful as him this could qualify as a Fate Worse than Death.
The entry feels speculative to me. There's nothing in the cutscene that even hints to this (Shimura's concern when spared is for Jin, not himself). Theres no discussion of this having any lasting negative consequences on Shimura. Even the post-end game discussion with Yuna states that though Shimura lives, he will not hunt Jin anymore, but doesn't speak of any consequence. Plus ya know, if it was that hard on Shimura, he could just commit suicide over the dishonor, and he doesn't.
Like, I get that's a logical assumption of what should happen, but it's not actually in the game, even as subtext.
Removed the Entry from Shimura
