Would you consider Hans a Knight of Cerebus in the movie Frozen for once he turned to be evil, the movie got darker and he had no comical moments, even lifting his sword up to kill Elsa, and he was a perfect example of a sociopath?

The trope does seem to be about new characters, but the reveal does establish a threat that's more serious than the relatively comedic duke, and I wouldn't classify him as a Not-So-Harmless Villain, either. Then again, things did start getting dark from the end of "Fixer-Upper," not just with Anna's frozen heart, but the Weselton goons nearly killing Elsa (and her nearly killing them) - but that's right around the time we start finding out more about Hans. Heck, that dark scene is immediately preceded by Olaf's (foreshadowing) question "Who is this Hans?"

I'd count it, but maybe put it on the YMMV page?

You can't put a non-YMMV trope on the YMMV page, just for information. Actual tropes are based on in-story facts, not audience opinions.

Thinking about it, I wouldn't say Hans as the trope is not only about the villain being dangerous, but also about the villain heralding a darker tone shift. The movie starts to get darker early on when Elsa storms out of the coronation party. The revelation about Hans's villainy may herald the climax, but not a tone shift.

Re: Hans being an Asshole Victim: being made to shove manure was actually a very light sentence for what he did, which included two attempted murders and Treason (back in the day, and even now in some countries, that's reason for getting the death penalty). Hans doesn't even get sent to a real prison.

The description of Asshole Victim talks about corpse-shaped hole and specifically mentions murder mysteries; and most of its examples listed are Assholes who get murdered. It's clear that for this Trope to apply, the Asshole must be murdered, die in some other way, suffer a Fate Worse than Death, or at least get something really, really horrible happen to them. Getting hit by a giant snowball is not enough.

Yeah that's... entirely a shoehorn.

I was the one responsible for deleting it. Hans' punishment comes off as of Laser-Guided Karma than Asshole Victim in my opinion. That's why I deleted it, and then it was added back.

Asshole Victim is slightly broader than just corpses, but mystery is still a requirement, and there's no mystery here.
