"What makes one a human?" is close. No one in the series is fully human, except Hiro (a one-man Humanity Is Infectious). The parasites are regarded as expendable and less than human, not even having names. The Adults are empty. APE's council act like robots. The klaxosaurs are monsters. Zero Two got it in her head that draining her co-pilots (at the cost of her metaphorical humanity) and killing klaxosaurs (externalizing her struggle) would make her human, both of which are off the mark.

Later episodes seems to go with companionship. Whethee its a lover or friend. Though, more overall lover.
Does this show has a Central Theme? I have been trying to find out but I couldn't really pin point what is it.
