I left a standing invitation to anyone who can find a real-world example, to come discuss it here before adding it.

Can we reinstate real-life examples here?

Edited the article. At first, I was going to argue strongly for allowing real-life examples again... but then my investigation failed to turn up any examples. This is a surprisingly narrow trope, and I\\\'m starting to wonder whether any society has ever fulfilled both halves of it at once.

Update: If there are any real-life examples at all, they\'re \'\'rare\'\'. Made the European aversion examples clearer and easier to read; added Native American aversion examples; also added an invitation to anyone who knows of a real-world example, to come here and hash it out.

This trope is narrower than it looks, though; I doubt that anyone\'s going to come up with an example...

Can we reinstate real-life examples here? Most peoples have flattering names for themselves and unflattering names for their enemies -- contributing to a lot of confusion in modern historiography. See _1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus_ for many examples.

As it is, the former description, which I\'ve removed, suggested that only the Teutons had flattering names for themselves and unflattering names for their enemies -- which sounds like AllGermansAreNazis.
