Something that bugs me about this trope is how bludgeon weapons are inherently evil. I would figure that weapons that are easier to use non-lethally as most bludgeon weapons are (except the mace and flail) would be more likely to be used by a good character, especially those who follow ThouShallNotKill.

Also, to me, they just seem more pragmatic than evil, considering that up close, a blunt weapon is often your best option against a well armored foe.
