Looking over this page and the one for \\\'\\\'Threads\\\'\\\', there seems to be a effort by some tropers to portray \\\'\\\'The Day After\\\'\\\' as being \\\"softcore\\\" or insinuating that Americans can\\\'t handle a grim reality like the Brits.

I don\\\'t have much time at the moment to sort through it all, but I\\\'ve gone ahead and pulled this out:

-->* LighterAndSofter: In comparison to {{Threads}}.
-->** Relatively speaking, anyway. The movie is still rather {{Grimdark}} and [[HighOctaneNightmareFuel profoundly disturbing]], but \\\'\\\'anything\\\'\\\' is LighterAndSofter than {{Threads}}.

No, it is \\\'\\\'not\\\'\\\' LighterAndSofter in comparison. LighterAndSofter implies that a successive work was made more family/child-friendly or just less dark.

\\\'\\\'TheDayAfter\\\'\\\' aired on November 20, 1983.

\\\'\\\'Threads\\\'\\\' aired in 1984.

If anything, \\\'\\\'Threads\\\'\\\' is DarkerAndEdgier--but even then I suspect that\\\'s a SquarePegRoundTrope case, because that would imply \\\'\\\'Threads\\\'\\\' is a sequel or part of a series as \\\'\\\'TheDayAfter,\\\'\\\' which it isn\\\'t.
