I have an issue with this trope that I have started to find more and more lately. It seems that anything that could be considered a \\\"negative\\\" depiction of a group is being archived under this trope (mostly referencing \\\"racists\\\", \\\"incels\\\", \\\"trolls\\\", or whatever group the poster has a hang-up with). I am/was under the impression that TakeThat has to be a specific insult or joke directed towards a recipient (hell, the main page definition shows that in both the images and multiple examples), not merely depicting someone as a bad/terrible person, otherwise Mr. Krabs would be a TakeThat against greedy corporate businessman instead of simply a greedy boss, Squidward would be a TakeThat against pretentious musicians instead of simply a pretentious musician, etc. So why are people using it this way? Is it TropeDecay? Should we bring the trope to the Repair forums?
