I think you’re missing how older works of literature dealt with things like \\\"fate\\\". It didn’t matter what this character did, they were \\\"fated\\\" to lose. Free will wasn’t much of a concept people considered because that would mean things were their own fault. People don’t consider [[ClassicVillain Classic Villains]] tragic because they do it because they want to, commit atrocious deeds, and \\\'\\\'then\\\'\\\' punished for that because of their deeds and refusal to change.
