I heard about the controversy surrounding the film\\\'s decision to go with three claws per hand and a claimed link to a real world deformity. I interpreted the filmmakers, and Anne Hathaway, as being sincere in their apology and defence due to being ignorant of the condition (I myself had no knowledge of it before the controversy broke out). So I wrote an additional line to this effect under the UnfortunateImplications entry on this page. But it was removed with the note \\\"Deleting an attempt at a Justifying Edit\\\". That seems odd to me. Does this mean we are meant to always give creators \\\"the detriment of the doubt\\\"? In other words, to hold them in suspicion and assume they had the worst possible intentions? That\\\'s not what I have always been encouraged to do in life, to try to give the benefit of the doubt. This trope may not even be a valid entry if it turns out that the filmmakers were absolutely sincere and had no intention of even remotely trying to cause offence, because they just didn\\\'t know about this real world condition before it was drawn to their attention.
