The first is what you thought, that the story is incredibly slow, and has hit over a million words, yet has not actually done that much in regards to the plot. It's a slice-of-life story, and many users had a problem with that, since the story (to them) seems to drag on forever. Those who criticized the story for that were reported, insulted, and generally attacked, and it caused a lot of annoyance and split the fanbase in two.

The second Broken Base is that a Moderator imposed a function called \"Post Friction\" on the thread. Post Friction basically makes it so that if you post a comment below a certain length (in this case, 75 words), you get a little reminder to try to make your comment longer and more substantial, as Spacebattles has strict rules against spam comments and zero-content comments. Shortly after this feature was implemented, the Author said that he would no longer be hosting his story on Spacebattles, and said there were \"political issues\" that caused it.

This second issue is what caused the majority of the problem - supporters of the Author started reporting the Moderator en-mass, they started tossing personal insults at the Moderator from the new thread on Sufficient Velocity, and they basically made a lot of noise, including claiming that the Moderator had banned the Author, or that the Moderator had kicked the story off Spacebattles (neither of which is factually true). This caused the Moderator to lock the thread, as it was just turning into a circlejerk of \"The Mods are oppressing us, those evil jerks\". This was \'\'not\'\' helped when the Author later wrote an omake calling the SpaceBattles mods smallminded idiots who get off on abusing their power.

This further split the fanbase into three groups: the fans of the story that think there\'s nothing wrong, the critics of the story who pointed out the slow pacing, and the critics of the Author who pointed out that the Author was acting like an idiot and blaming Spacebattles Mods unfairly.
