In the example above, the solution would be to change the year to the one the last eruption happened. Or change the volcano to a fictional one. Or assume that it\'s a fictional eruption for narrative purposes, who the hell cares.

A critical research failure would be something like making a book about an eruption, but the volcano inexplicably spills liquid water instead of lava and the ocean nearby drains. Or Grey is a scientist sent to study that eruption, but instead of a vulcanologist he is a linguist and is told that they don\'t have anyone else because there are no vulcanologists in America. Or placing St Helens in Mexico and making Grey\'s need to learn Spanish before he can go there a subplot. Or making up that only women can study volcanoes so Grey must crossdress to do his job. Whatever.
