As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
openShow discussion page posts & replies in edit history
Tropers should be able to see a history of their discussion page posts and replies (and, ideally, discussion page edits to existing posts/replies) as part of their edit history.
Either mix them into the timeline with other edits, or put them on a tab of their own - either seems workable.
(I can't see any reason why this history shouldn't be visible to other tropers as well)
Discussion pages ought to be a hub for conversation about the associated work or trope, but they're not getting that engagement right now - there's a bit of a disconnect between forums and the works/tropes themselves, and the discussion page should really be filling that gap.
If we can make it easier for tropers to use them (and remember which conversations they started/joined on them), we can hopefully keep momentum up on those content-creation/improvement discussions
openAdd timestamps to edit notes for discussion pages, ATT, bugs and wishlist
Forum posts show that the post was edited, name the troper who edited it and confirm when it was edited.
Queries (ATT/Bugs/Wishlist) and discussion page posts are missing the timestamp, so you can't see if it was edited ten minutes or ten days ago - which also means you can't see whether any replies were before or after the edit.
Can we close this gap and standardise them with the forum approach?
openDisplay edit reason in preview
This would be helpful when writing links in an edit reason, to make sure they're correct.
openIncrease page title length limit
Currently there is a limit of 64 characters for page titles. But some works have titles that are even longer than that.
closed Put Edit comments back at the top when they're seen in the Edit-History
If the edit is really long, it can be kind of difficult to find the comment left behind by the person who made the edit since they're now at the bottom of it.
closed Edit reasons at the top of edits
When adding some major spoilers, I realized something.
Edit reasons are at the bottom of the thing that shows the edits. But if they were at the top of them it could give a spoiler waring for those inclined. Thoughts to that?
closed Move edit reason to the top of the history window's instance
It's honestly kind of annoying that you have to scroll down to the bottom to see it, especially for large edits.
closed Have a Following button for TLP drafts
I think one of the biggest contributors to abandoned or barely-contributed-to drafts is because sponsors don't think to check on them, which is in turn because they don't show up on their Forum Threads page since you can't follow them for new replies.
Adding a Following button to TLP drafts, which would allow the sponsor or other tropers to come back to it and contribute to it when it pops up in the Forum Threads section, would help.
closed Add more post numbers in a forum thread (Also bring back the post number)
I feel like 25 is too short for the number of posts a forum thread, with me often losing track of certain topics due to the limited number of posts in a thread. But at the same time, I feel like more than 100 or 250 is too overwhelming, especially for those with low internet connections.
To get my point, please add the option to increase the number of posts in a thread, with the choices of 25, 50, 100, and 200 posts per thread.
To add, please bring back the post number because I also lose track when it comes to image pickin' and forum games.
Edited by alnair20aug93closed Access to do on mobile
Add the ability to access the to do list on the mobile version of the site.
closed Make the to-do list more accessable on mobile
On the desktop version of the site, clicking on the "more" tab at the top of each page gives you the option to go to the to-do list. On mobile view though, the to-do list is only accessible through troper pages. It should be easier to get to, especially because, in my opinion, the to-do list is more important on mobile than on desktop. Editing the wiki on mobile is difficult, and it would be nice if the site made it easy to make note of problems so I could fix them when I get back to my computer.
At the suggestion of another troper, I've bookmarked the to-do list on my phone as a workaround, but it would be nice if the process was a bit easier.
closed Make certain wiki tools accessible on mobile
So I primarily edit with my phone (because its all I have right now) and I noticed that the mobile version doesn't have some of the tools the regular sites does, like image upload, page source, discussion pages, the to-do list, the WikiWord/Custom title request tool, and the page type tool too and probably some others I missed.
Every I want copy/paste or move pages on my phone, I have to go through the edit window because the page source button is absent.
I am aware you can use desktop mode to see them on mobile but thats a bit cumbersome and oftentimes the mobile device automatically switches back to mobile mode
Edited by MacronNotesclosed Fix whatever the heck this is
This is the Wiki Talk subforum. I've also seen this on TRS, and there might be more subforums that I don't visit that also have this. It's distracting as all heck, and I know for a fact it wasn't intended to be like that.
Edited by JHD0919closed Add some things to the "Create New" button
Is it okay if I'm allowed to be able to use: Video Examples; Funny; Tearjerker; Heartwarming; Nightmare Fuel; Awesome; and Hilarious In Hindsight? I want to use them to create and add things.
Edited by Tuffyharper22closed Remove the synopsis page type
As a fairly new troper, I noticed that the synopsis page type was not seen at all. I looked to the short page on them, which said that they were deprecated in favor of recap pages. Since no one uses them, why are they still an option? I tested this by making a synopsis page on a small article and then calling attention to it. The page got deleted within days, so I feel like the option should be removed to enforce the rule.
workingShow emoji input line for queries and query replies
When writing these, the little line of emojis you can click on to add them isn't present like it is with forum posts. Having it there (and thus easy access to stuff like [up], [down], and [nja]) would be useful for responding to query replies.
Edited by badtothebaritoneopenMedium-Trope automatic linking
Let's say that we have a Trope linked with a Medium in the Trope page, but not the other way around (in the Medium page). Instead of doing the additional job of editing both the Medium and the Trope page, could it be easier to automatically create the "reverse link"? I understand that copying the whole text from the example will create other difficulties, so just the link to the trope/medium would be fine.
Edited by nickb64openShow Differences
Per Nudge, I'd like
1. Wikipedia/Fandom's style to compare two edits. Thought this would require rendering old version of pages from the following edits.
2. A comparison window between the edited version of the page and the current.
openAbout Flame Bait links on Pantheon pages
They still have the Flame Bait marker next to them even though it is said that "the Pantheon is one of the few places where you can assign Dungeons & Dragons alignments to characters that don't have an alignment system", and Character Alignment pages are among those listed as Flame Bait. Let the Flame Bait marker not display when they're linked on Pantheon pages, just like how Trivia/YMMV tropes retain that marker unless they're on pages with the proper namespace.
Apparently bulletins can have more than 3 announcements, so it should probably indicate that.
