No they're both his name. If he's officially Zolo in one and Zoro in another then they are both his English name.

It's close enough. And either way, it's a mispronunciation of a character's name from a cartoon. Does that really matter enough to hurl insults at her?

It's less "mispronunciation" and more "translation", and the whole "Zolo Zoro" thing is a bit more than that. Usually it's just a simple manner of preference, but in this case there's a clear "right" and "wrong", with the "wrong" existing only for legal reasons.

But it's really not that huge a deal. Surprising little flub from one of the site's main anime reviewers, but whatever.

to be fair it's also an l/r difference. Normally we forgive translations making that mistake. Or maybe I'm too nice to dubs

Oda himself confirms it's Zoro. It's on his wanted poster, and any time he writes it in English it's Zoro.

Don't give me translation bullshit.

And why does this matter so much beyond "I really like this show"? Like, honestly.

We get angry when we know one of the responsibilities of a web reviewer is that they research enough to make a strongly-supported opinion on the show, and yet she apparently uses the wrong pronunciation of a character's name and provides no reason why.

Yeah White Trash is crap. probly the worst ep since Eating Pattern. But dont worry, Norb will get his.

We havent made it to White Trash yet, if it was just up to me we woulda been done with s2 by now (LOVE LEXX!) but Omega (smartly) wants to make it a weekly type thing so we watch an ep or 2 a week.

In Death Note, there's a character who's name is shown on-screen, written as "Rally Conners", but I don't recall anyone complaining when the English dub decided to pronounce it "Larry Conners".

That's because HE wasn't named in homage to one of the greatest heroes of all time, like Zoro was.

....*facepalm*.... So what, Marzgirl has seen version of the show were Zoro was translated as Zolo.

Roronoa is supposed to be reference to "l'Ollonois", but its romanized as Roronoa in japanese version since Japanese apparently aren't good in that, and who complains about reference to famous pirate not being right?

Heck, why you don't complain about that his name is apparently supposed to be spelled as "Zorro" according to some Japanese encyclopedia thingy?

The only research one has to do to form a strongly-supported opinion on a show is just watching the show. Just because one does not follow dubbing controversies does not make one's opinion less valid.

Please people, continue being butthurt about some pronunciation thing on some internet video. This is endlessly entertaining.

It's fascinating. Like watching a car crash in slow motion. Only no one actually got killed and nothing serious happened. So no guilt.

I'm not surprised honestly; people were making a mountain out of a molehill over the Walkers mispronouncing the characters' names in Avatar.
