Just like I promised, I have beaten Alatreon in Port Tanzia with the help of some fine folks. Now I can play the Hallowed Jhen Mohran mission anytime I want without having to do the shitty Hero Mark quest just to unlock Alatreon and beat it there. Thanks a lot, DLC!

Also, my HR is now 56.

So guys, I got the Uragaan X armor since my Barioth X was seriously not helping against anything that uses fire (also first time playing again since last year today) and since I happened to conveniently have the pallium and ruby. Something strange though, is that for some reason Focus is greyed out on it even though it's at +10. I tried raising it to +15 with decorations but it still remains greyed out. Is that a glitch or does it just normally look that way?

Speaking of armors, what's everyone using?

What weapon are you using? Also, I am and always will be using Agnaktor Z armor.

Oh, it seems I was wearing the Gunlance at the time. Changed to my Switchaxe and it works fine, thanks.

Agnaktor X is one of my favorite armor designs, but I have like, no use for its skills...

Damn, I felt good after FINALLY beating Mark of a Hero. I don't even know why I was still trying that quest, but at least it's complete. Still a quest that should have been in Tanzia, but it's no longer worth complaining anymore.

On the more positive side:

  • I'm HR 64 now (hurrah!!)
  • I also managed to beat every single monster, including Hallowed Jhen Mohran, Savage Deviljho, Abyssal Lagiacrus and Lucent Nargacuga (though I already did the latter two some time ago, right after I defeated Dire Miralis).
  • This is my current status:
    • Defense: 634 (Helios Z)
    • Attack: 1196 (Vanagloria, Demolition Axe), 1242 (Ceadeed)
    • Abilities: Ear Protection +2, Sharpness +1, Capture Guru, Water Attack +1, Divine Blessing
    • Money: Over 3.7 million
    • Resources: Over 97000 points

How was Dire Miralis?

I'm kind of afraid of going against it and feel that I have little chance of soloing it, but I have to if I want to unlock Hallowed Jhen and finally upgrade my water switchaxe (even though at that point there will be little to nothing to bother using it on.) I also need to kill it for its gunlance since my Rathalos one goes into Silver which makes it a Dragon weapon instead of Fire.

I'm still stuck at Lagiacrus (the one thing I need to kill to unlock the last key quest I have to do, the one with Ivory and some other thing) since I suck at fighting underwater and because I need a mantle to upgrade my Rathalos gunlance. I'll also need another for the second upgrade of the Silver one though....why the hell does it need three upgrades anyway? I mean if you have to get materials from a friggin HR 8 monster for it(at which point you'd have defeated the vast majority of things you would even use it on) they could at least lessen the farming required...it feels more like they designed this thing to be a chore instead of a game.

Miralis is in no way a pushover, but it's still enjoyable, I prefer it over Alatreon (the only pending monster I have in Village). The battle takes place both on land and underwater, and in both cases you have to attack its glowing fiery stains, as in the case of Agnaktor. The monster moves slowly, but keep an eye on where it'll aim at, since its charges can deal a lot of damage. Also keep an eye on the floor. You'll be able to tell where the volcanic fireballs it drops will fall. There is a Dragonator you can use by hopping onto a wrecked ship, use it when Miralis exits the water to walk on land. I heard there is a second Dragonator underwater, but I never figured out where it is. Miralis is weak primarily to Dragon, but Water works too when it enrages and enters Armor Mode. I used Vanagloria when I fought it.

As for Lagiacrus, do what I did: Get Gobul X armor. It helps you swim faster and eat more quickly, which increases the pace of the fight. As a suggestion, when you're looking for King Whisks (which you'll need to complete the armor), carve Gobul while it's hidden underground after moving from one place to another. Make sure you don't do any action that can disrupt it and note your presence. After one carve or two, it will jump back at you anyway.

EDIT: Last night I got Eclipse Axe and rose to HR 66.

I actually hate fighting Gobul more than Lagiacrus, and I almost never make an armor(or weapon) just for one or two monsters(poison armor being the one example of something I made specifically to deal with Gigginox and Rathian) but I do have to deal with Abyssal Lagiacrus to get some thunder duals I can actually use...either that or I could go down the Stygian line that makes it a Thunder/Dragon weapon, but I already have dragon duals and am going to get a dragon gunlance as a result of upgrading the Rathalos gunlance.

I seem to have this problem of having to kill things that I would use specific weapons for in order to reach the monster to farm said specific weapon. (Everything ever I wanted to deal with a water switchaxe being dealt with with ice duals instead because Hallowed Jhen is near the end of the game being the most egregious of them.)

Also, I was mostly concerned about Miralis' HP (and maybe fire damage, not sure if I should buff my fire res higher for the fight or not.) I'm also unsure of if the ballista is good enough to bother using while it's on land (I don't gun) since it's like impossible to hit any of its glowing spots not its tail unless it falls over while it's on land. (Never thought I'd ever consider something to seem easier underwater than on land.)

The second dragonator is in like...the northwest (assuming you start at the south) corner of the tainted sea IIRC, though from watching Miralis videos I get the feeling that says the only way you're even going to hit that thing with the underwater dragonator is if you happen to already be conveniently next to it by the time Miralis bothers to get its butt over there.

I too don't like having to forge or craft something just for one monster, but Gobul X helped me in a lot of underwater battles, not just Lagiacrus. Heck, I even managed to defeat Gold Ceadeus alone with it!

Also, I don't think it's necessary to use specific weapons for certain monsters. I have been using the Switch Axe since my first Qurupeco fight (there I realized the dual swords weren't my type of weapon, unlike my cousin who uses them like a pro).

But if you have more trouble with Gobul, then I'm not sure what else to suggest. I myself have had to solve several jigsaw puzzles in regards of how to survive in G rank!! =(

Lagiacrus is now down! And it only took two carts and 46 minutes! Better than the time I had to deal with killing the High Rank Lagiacrus anyway.

So now that i've gotten that shit done, now I have to do the REAL key quest, which has Ivory Lagiacrus and...Gobul. And it's in Flooded Forest again.

Fucking hell.

Yeah... that's definitely not going to be easy. And Ivory Lagiacrus as a whole is a Broken Pedestal for me, if only because of how stupidly overpowered it is even by G rank standards. I liked it better during the very brief time it appears in High Rank. Nowadays, I even like Abyssal Lagiacrus more. >_>

Eh? I don't really find anything about Ivory bothersome, aside from that one lightning move with the lightning balls(which normal Lagiacrus does too) since it bypasses my shield(and I do not gunlance enough to get Gunlance-specific armor.) I like it more since it tends to be on land more often.

Not that this stopped me from getting carted 3 minutes after it went underwater though. (And there is no way in hell I am fighting G-Rank Gobul without Health+50.)

Anyone here got experience with boomerangs? I wanted to use them for when Silver Rathalos flies too high up for my SA and for breaking parts on Miralis while it's on land, but I can't seem to find out how the hell i'm supposed to throw it higher.

I never used any, sadly. And right now I'm having a difficult duty on my own (I need a Diablos hardhorn for the final Uragaan axe upgrade).

Hey thread, new guy here. I'll skip the exposition and simply say that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was the reason I bought a 3DSXL, however I haven't been able to really break into the game as much as I wanted because said 3DSXL is murder on my hands. I play exclusively Dual Blades and only have around 60 hours clocked (plus procrastination time)

I will say that the emphasis on crafting, tracking, trapping, and y'know, actually hunting monsters rather than just going in guns blazing took some getting used to, but I think I'm starting to get it.

So... yeah.

Don't ask what's wrong with me, because I don't know either.

I've never been able to hold Nintendo products comfortably; From the NES to SNES to every iteration of the Game Boy. They're just so... flat and rectangular, y'know?

I got a comfort grip in the mail yesterday, so there's that at least.
