Does Japan care that much about the Western internet subculture?
There was another Internet thing... Though, I forgot what it was ^^;
^^Not so much Japan as it is Western translators/localizers.
Whaddya mean, "Braggart Boss"?^ Kind of like how Pokemon Diamond had a Goon on the translation team, who snuck in some memes. Could be a similar (but not identical, obviously) situation here.
I have a message from another time...Exactly.
Also, I repelled Ceadus again last night. And that Dragonator is awesome.
Whaddya mean, "Braggart Boss"?@ PK Super: I though you meant that the Japanese would tell the translation team about the memes it wants to include.
What does HR mean, how do I get it, and how do I see what it is? Also, How do I get the armor+ stuff? Monster Hunter Wiki is telling me these exist, but they don't explain anything else, and Gamefaqs is uninformative on MH.
Both are online only. HR is Hunter Rank. When completing quests online, you earn rank points. Gain enough points, and you rank up. This doesn't affect your stats, but reaching certain HR milestones unlocks quests. After reaching 50 or so, higher ranks don't do anything. They do go up to 999, though.
As for + materials, they are gathered from the fourth-tier or higher online quests. They are used in crafting high-end armor and weapons which have better stats and resistances.

"I want to create an omelet that expresses the meaninglessness of existence, and instead they taste like cheese."Near as I can tell, HR is Hunter Rank. You gain Hunter Rank as you complete certain quests in online mode, and certain quests are closed to people with too low of a hunter rank.
Generally, a higher hunter rank means that hunter's done more in online mode.
I have a message from another time...Too bad HR is rarely a very good indicator of how good a certain Hunter really is...
"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."You're joking right? There is an occasional exception, but most of the low rank guys I've been with have been in the range of skillful noob to downright facepalm fuel.
No, the BEST way to judge someone's skill is their equipment. That guy who has an HR of 3 but a full set of Ludroth or Barroth armor? Oh yeah, you want him to back you up. Emphasis on the full. Also, check them out (go up to them and press A) to see their gear more in-depth.

Whaddya mean, "Braggart Boss"?Double post for Canondorf:
The whole translator's note thing is in regards to the way the Argosy captain talks (ex. "...according to keikaku! Keikaku means plan!")
What you'll find in some poorly done fansubs is that they leave the original English spelling of the Japanese word, and have the translation at the top in the form of X means Y. Like this shining example of fail.◊
Either that or they pay attention to stupid parodies on a certain image board.
Whaddya mean, "Braggart Boss"?@PK Super: That's not what I meant, but the only thing further conversation could do is dig each other deeper into misunderstanding.
Also, I've never been online but I've a full set of Barroth armor, lol.
Ok, how do you join in quests on online?(Yes, I fail in many ways) Somehow, manual is so boring to read...
Eh, I just get back at reading the manual... Its not that long anyway...

To join quests look at the board near the counter, it will list all current quests, if people have slips of paper above their heads, it means that they initiated or joined, Full means the person is the leader and folded means a person joined.
You cannot join quests if they already set out.
You should also make friends as well, I have about 6 allies I can call on or they can call me for assistance.
If you are a gunner, make or buy healing shots so that if they are in a pinch, you can save them, preventing you from failing the quest as if there are 3 defeats (You or ally faints) total, the quest is failed.
Canondorf: Not bad, you should be good until you upgrade to Rathian or Lagiacrus Armor. Once you reach higher Armor levels, you should sell off some of the useless materials you have, they do fetch a good sum.
I also bought a Lagiacrus fountain furnishing in story mode using the Queen's Spirit (Rare trade item from Rathian) The codex's that were for trade were not worth it.

So I have a shiny new full suit of Rathalos armor...
Whaddya mean, "Braggart Boss"?I just finished my Ludroth armor, and really kicked the Royal Ludroth's butt. I had a lot less trouble with him than I do that Qurupeco thing.
And I had to poke the wiki to see where I get Gluehoppers, since I need a few of those for some upgrades. That and the Pelagicite ore, I'm surprised I didn't find that one myself. Guess I didn't explore as thoroughly as I ought to have.
I'm torn about whether I should keep my Barroth armor, or go hunting for the slimmer and more defensive Rathian armor (and go hunting for the + spheres I need to level it up.). Thoughts? Other armor suggestions? (I'm still around "woo just killed the Lagiacrus" in the story mode).
I have a message from another time...Rathian armor is AWESOME. Specially with a weapon that can block, since if you try to unlock Earplug it's very likely you will unlock also Demonic Blessing. Other than that, it has nice defense, nice resistances being only weak to Dragon and Thunder *, and health +20. It has seven slots which you can use to max the skills or to unlock new ones and it looks cool (and even more if you're female/gunner). Of course, getting that Rathian Plate will not be an easy task, but the spare parts can be used to craft some interesting weapons.
I ain't saying no showy crap like "later buddies" or something lame like that. I'll be back soon, you bozos! Now I'm trying to make + Armor
Either that or upgrade past Level 6 on my current armors but they require materials I can't even get yet due to my Hunter Rank.
Good Gravy is it annoying with the Elite Quests. I want the Rathian Ruby Damnit! The monsters hit harder and you do not start at base camp. But what annoys me the most is if you start out right in the same sector of the creature you are hunting or another large monster. A Quropeco called a damned Deviljho right on my first hunt of Elite Quest Quropeco.
^^ Alright.
...how hard is it to get a Rathian Plate? What do I need to do?
I have a message from another time...^ You need to cut Rathian's tail off to carve it. You can do that with almost any weapon (except for hammer), though it's harder with bowguns, unless you're good with Slicing Shots, or Sword and Shield since these are short and her tail is almost always out of your reach (punish her legs enough and she will fall down for you to focus on her tail), with a Lance can be kind of difficult, too.
The problem is that you will get a Plate with a 10% chance (with only one carve per tail). It's also supposed to be a reward for the Subquests which ask you to Rathian's tail off; and it's also supposed to be possible to find one if you gather on the shinies she drops (when she's eating), though with lesser percentage. If you're lucky enough, you could get one (or more) in your first try. It sounds like it's easy, but I had to cut more than 20 tails before getting a plate. Despair ensues after three days killing the same monster just for the sake of getting a full armor set before advancing.
That said, there's always a bright side: now I know her full moveset, have two different fire weapons, have the full rathian swordsman set and an almost complete set of gunner rathian armor (waiting for another plate).
I ain't saying no showy crap like "later buddies" or something lame like that. I'll be back soon, you bozos!Killed mah first Berroth just now. Ew mud. Also figuring out how to make armorskin and whatnot, since those are useful.
^ Do you want info on how to make them? Or are you saying that you've figured it out?
Also: I found out how to make an Armorhorn and a Demonhorn. Those should come in handy if I play online.
Oh and ^^ It's actually not that hard to hit her tail with a lance. Lances have this sweet upward stab.

I have a message from another time...
^^ Or they could have literally had that as a translator note.
