@Grounder: No. Pleinair is only playable in the DS version of the first Disgaea game. Simply get any ending (including the first "lose to Mid-boss" one an hour in), talk to Pleinair, choose the blank option, and she's yours.
@Ninety: The only Disgaea games available for the PSP are Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness and Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days. I don't know about the PSN.
EDIT: Though, I could be wrong on the PSP front.

De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Disgaea 1 and 2 were remade for PSP with an additional arc. 3 and 4 were for Vita. All 4 can be played on a vita and on PSN however 3 can not be played on Vita TV.
The vanilla versions of all 4 can be played on a PS 3 as well via PSN.
She was playable in afternoon iirc, new game plus or something got her.

According to the Disgaea Wiki, Gamefaqs, and the strategy guide I have at my desk right now, Pleinair is only playable in the DS version. People here are probably confusing it with Disgaea 2, or some similar type of confusion.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Actually Disgaea DS let you play as Plenair, Adel, Rozalin, and Zetta. The latter three could be fought in Afternoon of Darkness, but were not playable.
Do spears still suck or did they get better in 5?
They have some rather interesting multi-tile special attacks, and still hit an extra space away. You'll have to explain to me why they supposedly sucked for more of an answer.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television. They generally don't have the same amount of offensive stats that swords or axes do plus their skills tend to be fairly unimpressive. I don't think they've been good since, what, D2 maybe?
They seem to specialize in area effect attacks now (with most of them removed from Sword). Of course, every weapon ends up with a 3x3 square attack by the end anyway though, so I'm not sure how valuable that is. They also get some bonus defense on the weapon.
Furthermore, the game has pretty much entirely removed the "arbitrary empty square required to do this move" thing, which helps spears out a lot. Obviously, that means they don't move the user either.

Fists still have a few that need blank spaces, but they aren't common.
I quite like the new maid class. In addition to one free item use, Afternoon Tea will give an extra action (might include movement, can't remember) to another character, which sounds like it'll be really handy.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.Well, it's just a Fire Emblem-style Dancer. Who can also use items as a free action, I guess.
I don't think Fire Emblem character get quite as powerful as Disgaea ones do, though, so an extra turn means a bit more here than there.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.Extra turns are kind of pointless postgame and maid sounds like a class you have to go to some effort to unlock. Do you even have it during the main story?
Maids are default, I think, if not that then very early on.
It's one of the classes you start off with (as in, you'll start with one in your party, along with two Prinnies). You get the skill at level 30.
It might have better use as a grinding skill. If you need someone to set up for a battle (say, using a warcat to mon-toss a geo-block, for example), you can use Afternoon Tea so that they can also get involved in the kill for experience, and don't need to train a second monster to do the exact same job.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.Yeah, you open with maids because Seraphina is obscenely rich.
Um, do Clone panels also clone the fakes, or will they eventually die out when you kill the originals?
I'm not sure which I want to be true, because although it's great experience grinding to take that shroom map with the massive cloning area, I'm worried that it might get a bit out of hand if I'm not careful.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.I think they used to, but don't anymore.
Alright then. Related note: is there any point to item world stuff before the endgame, because it looks like level has less of an effect than gear does on battle effectiveness.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television. Not really. Most Disgaea game systems have no point before endgame, honestly.
For example, powering up your skills with Mana is both disproportionately expensive for what you have and offers very little benefit, if any.

Fair enough.
I actually ended up killing an endgame item world boss the other day, because he spawned in the very far corner of the room, with an item symbol blocking him. Couldn't destroy it, and he only had an attack range of one, so I spent about 40 turns weakening him and hitting him with a long combo chain Omega Wind.
Can't actually remember what I got for killing him, though.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television. That's basically the strategy for dealing with Priere in the first game. Throw her to a floating island where she can't hit you, use long-range Specials for the next half hour, win.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.My problem is probably that I see all the different characters I can create, and make at least one of each, sometimes soliciting prisoners, and end up with way too many characters to balance out fairly.
There's also a little problem with how you experience grind. In that, it's a bit tricky. Towers are okay for taking down a single target, but don't work with monster units. Magichange means you can feed monsters experience from a very high level map, but you need someone at the same level to feed them the exp, and doesn't work with humans at all.
Then again, we just established that gear is more important than levels, so I should try and find a good place to earn hL instead.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.
I'm pretty sure that Pleinair was in the PSP one too.
