Okay, if Gharnef actually gets into Smash as a fighter I will turn my profile into a filthy kawaii Female Byleth X Edelgard fanart pic.
You all saw it here first folks.

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Gharnef I doubt. I cannot see them not having Marth at all.
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.Yeah, Marth is too iconic to remove. He’s def staying.
Not sure about the others tho.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. If the next Smash game has boss fights, I think it'd be cool to have Medeus be a boss. He could be a two phase boss: his first phase is in his Earth Dragon form, while his second phase is his Dark Dragon form.
I think Edelgard would be perfect for pulling double duty as both Three Houses rep and villain rep, and if you do her Hegemon form you could do a very different moveset from the other Fire Emblem characters.
My runner-up for villain rep would be Veronica, but heroes doesn't really need a rep since all the Fire Emblem characters are technically Heroes reps.

I mean Hegemon Edelgard would pretty definitely be a final smash.
If she does get in I hope they pull heavily from her Three Hopes incarnation, with a lot of flaming tornados.
Bleye knows Sabers. On the subject of the House leaders, I could see the House leaders being Assist Trophies if Byleth remains in the roster. I imagine Claude being the easiest to KO while having the biggest attack range, Edelgard being the hardest to KO but also having the least accurate attacks, and Dimitri somewhere in the middle.

Doing another Engage run, and I'm reminded of how worthless lances are. Swords are accurate, have powerful Engage attacks, and include the almighty Levin Sword. Axes have power, reliable 1-2 range, and are used by Warriors. Where would you rather use lances over axes? Alfred? Bad unit. Timmera? Bad unit. Flame Lance? Worse than Levin Sword. Royal Knight? Bad class. Halberdier? Bad class. Ridersbane, Fensalir, Représailles, and Brionac are alright, but I wouldn't miss not using them. Useful for Sigurd's Override at least.
Axes just seem like the better physical weapon, and if you're in a class with a second weapon I'd generally rather have swords. I put a couple lances on my team to make use of the ones I have and the occasional break, but on their own merits it's hard to justify them.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.Engage has the opposite problem as the GBA FE games, where swords were strictly inferior to lances and axes due to a lack of a reliable 1-2 range option.
"Wait, it's IV. Of course they are. They'd make IV for Dreamcast." - Enlong, on yet another FFIV remakeI mean, Javelins still exist and are generally better than Hand Axes (the Tomahawk is arguably better than the Spear, though). I think the bigger issue is that Engage just prefers for everyone to be very specialized, and lances are the weapon type that get stuck being the middle of the road in almost every respect.
Lance Griffin Chloe is still quite competent if one adamantly wants to stick with a good lance unit. Thing is, though, is that she'd still rather just be Mage Knight or promote to Sword Griffin for Levin stuff.
FE: New Mystery Fresh Cart Lunatic 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiWere sword units any better in Radiant Dawn? That was the only game where 1-2 range swords were common.
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.Yeah, swords were pretty good in Radiant Dawn. Wind Edges' stats were kinda terrible, but Swordmasters/Trueblades had a bajillion Skill and easy Adept access, so the bad base Hit and Mt pretty much ended up only mattering for Meg and Edward.
FE: New Mystery Fresh Cart Lunatic 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiSpeaking of games where swords are good, New Mystery. Well, kinda. It's mostly because Swordmaster and Horseman are the only classes with a 30-Spd cap than swords themselves. Doing this one with a fresh system save, so no shared class sets, no shop stat boosters, and being stuck with regular Lunatic as the highest difficulty.
FE: New Mystery Fresh Cart Lunatic 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiAnother reason swords are generally good in FE12 is because enemy stats are generally good enough and enemy density is low enough that even bows are considered viable. Especially on Lunatic Reverse.
"Wait, it's IV. Of course they are. They'd make IV for Dreamcast." - Enlong, on yet another FFIV remakeSwords were good in pre-GBA because all of the cool stuff were swords and every other weapon type were poorly balanced, especially axes.
Fire Emblem Heroes Code: 4547311645 Fate/Grand Order Code: 188037115That's because FE5 was the first to really give you good axe users.
- In FE1 the handful of axe users you got couldn't even promote. Same goes with FE3.
- FE2 didn't give you any playable axe users at all.
- In FE4 you only have a handful of axe users, and two of them are Master Knights who would rather be wielding something else.
The pendulum swung too hard in the other direction come FE10 — axes weren't the Powerful, but Inaccurate weapon they were in previous games since they had higher accuracy, and most of your axe users generally didn't have trouble hitting things to begin with. It's to the point where giving Ike a hammer for his rematch vs the Burger King is actually a good idea in spite of the WTD.
"Wait, it's IV. Of course they are. They'd make IV for Dreamcast." - Enlong, on yet another FFIV remakePromoting wasn't as problematic that most people say. But it does gives a bad impression of axe users. In FE 3, you don't get any in Book 2 and there aren't that much variety in axes. Heck, they got rid of hammers in Mystery of the Emblem.
Compared to most weapon classes, you get like 4 in Shadow Dragon and you get them all in the beginning of the game. Thracia gives you a lot more axe units by comparison.
Fire Emblem Heroes Code: 4547311645 Fate/Grand Order Code: 188037115Axes have always been the best weapon in Fire Emblem because it is the coolest.
Bleye knows Sabers. There's a reason why there's a meme that Kaga hates axes.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Of course you would hype up the weapon that belongs to Edelgard.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. My screen name since The New '10s has been "Axe Legend" or "A Legendary Axe" My love for axes very much predates Edelgard.
But I won't pretend her weapon of choice didn't affect my love of her.
Bleye knows Sabers.I'd like Claude more if he didn't use a bow and arrow.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. What do you have against archery?
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.Cross-posting this from the Shin Megami Tensei thread:
So here's something I thought up after Fire Emblem: Three Houses was brought up in the Shin Megami Tensei thread, and because I'm in a major SMT mood right now.
I was thinking of a Fire Emblem fanfic that a friend of mine read a long time ago where the writer took the story of Rurouni Kenshin and replaced the characters with Fire Emblem characters. Which then led me to think "Hey, wouldn't it be funny if I put Three Houses and Three Hopes characters in Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse?"
Sidenote: I sometimes wonder if that fic ever got finished, but I'm not interested enough to go digging around in FanFiction.Net to find out.
Most of these choices are based on what I think is amusing, though some of them do have a bit more thought put into them. Be warned that the "Major allies" folder does contain some Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse spoilers, so you might not want to click it if you want to go into that game spoiler-free.

Core rosters let them experiment more than DLC add-ons.
