Same. My units are strong enough to stomp everything else, but I'm not up for grinding till capping everything and having to set up all these optimal skill combos for one map.

It's enough of a pain getting the parents up to skill caps for Future Past. I don't want to have to run everybody through another 45 levels minimum to get optimized skills for Apotheosis.

It's been fun.

So Apotheosis is just the hardcore map for the hardcore players eh?

Well, maybe I will just skip it then. I'm playing Casual mode for a reason.

In fact, I may never actually beat it, as I'm not sure if I want to spend that much time on anything.

Ah well, Like I said before Future's Past feels like more of an ending anyway.

[up] Yes, it is the hardcore map for hardcore players, though playing the slightly-less-hardcore version of it nets you an Einherjar with what I believe is a fine skillset.

Well, I ain't gonna start grinding to beat it now, when I'm already struggling to level up a lot of my guys already. I'll just beat the game and be done with it.

Maybe on the next run.

One thing I've seen people like with Apotheosis is that the enemy units have predictable stats and skillsets (even if they are all basically bosses in mook clothing) so once you know what you're messing with and have all the units you want to use all optimized, all you need is to do is lay down a strategy and you'll have it beat with minimal reliance on luck.

Also, speaking of the Future Past, it actually motivated me to finally grind out all of my first-gen units (previously, I had only used the first-gens and second gens I liked) and so I now have most of my units optimized in a way I like, both for the FP maps and for the general stuff.

Actually, there is one thing I want to do before I finish. I never got all the stuff for all the scramble dlc, so I'll have to do that.

Rob: It's worth noting that if you ground up units for Future Past in order to minmax the kids' stats for those maps, that's also generally enough grinding to beat Apotheosis. However, you need to be mindful of the skills you acquire during that time to make sure you take a class route that allows you to kill two birds with one stone. In short, if you ever do a save file where you decide you want to grind up for Future Past again and want another chance at taking down Apotheosis, then keep that in mind.

I get that there's an appeal in challenge, but it sounds unreasonably hard and minmaxy.
Eh, while it is minmaxy to some degreee, it's actually really lenient on how it can be approached. I mean, this is no Disgaea grind or anything like. I mean, I personally dislike grinding and I didn't find it too bad.

To give you an idea of just how lenient it is, here are some of the finer points of my team:

  • No Spotpass characters. This left Robin as my single rallybot (running Spectrum, Skill, Speed, Magic, Move)
  • No DLC skills for the actual combat (no Limit Breaker, Rally Love; Paragon permitted for grinding)
  • No serious Eugenics. That is, I just paired together whatever was convenient to unlock more kid paralogues.
  • Vantage-Vengeance Sages supported by more Sages (or a Dark Flier, in Cynthia's case), all using forged Celica's; Galeforce where possible (thanks to my lack of eugenics, it was a bit in short supply).
  • Luna, forged Longbow Snipers support by Sages with forged Celica's
  • The rest filled out by just whatever high level staff users (Rescue spam) and Sorcerers (Mire spam) were on hand (to minimize the amount of grinding required)
  • Grindind done on a Lunatic+ file, so the grinding was much slower than it could have been.
  • Def Asset, which is one of the less optimal Assets to have for Apotheosis

All in all, it took me maybe 15 hours' worth of grinding to prep my team for both the entire Future Past set and Apotheosis at the same time, then another 5ish to round everyone out on the last of their skills and stats for Apotheosis. And this was hardly doing anything efficiently. If I'd done it on Normal and eugenics-ed harder, it probably would've taken about half that time, if that.

Given that my mishmash of whatever could win that fight, throw in Limit Breaker and suddenly everyone's other skills have a lot more flexibility.

For no particular reason I've spent most of the afternoon thinking up possible stories for a hypothetical FE game.

Right. So after pondering it, I've decided to beat the game (again) and then when I'm redoing it, I'll worry about getting all conversations for the scramble DLC's.

I've already decided at least 2-3 things:

That is more or less it. Beyond that, any suggestions for who should marry who?

Also Happy Birthday Cordelia!

  • Surge of Mag and def

  • 18 exp

  • Celica's gale

......Hmm, I may hold off on re-starting until after my own (and by default, my Avatar's) birthday. Not sure yet.

No, no, I'll do it. Get it done and all that.

Alright. I restarted with a female avatar, just like I said.

This will likely go slowly since I just beat it, but I'm curious to see how all the Supports are different now.....

Even though I don't actually remember all of them.

There's a support library accessed from the start screen. Will show you all of the support conversations you've unlocked.

Although the art it uses for characters that can have multiple looks depends on the last accessed file, so things can get a little ... strange. (Tiki!Morgan chatting with Mother!Tharja, for the first that comes to mind).

Cool. I'll remember to take a look at that.

Kinda interesting to do it all again after beating it before. I'm going to enjoy this.

I'd advise against having Chrom marry Sumia again. Chrom's marriage is the only one that you really have to do multiple playthroughs to see all of, so I'd recommend knocking another pairing out.

Pairings, right.

Ricken is a pretty good father for Owain, I think, since he has the biggest magic to pass down and it makes him epic magic guy. Normally I'd suggest Kellam/Sully for invincible Kjelle, but if he's not available maybe Stahl? Vaike/Cherche for Char Gerome. It doesn't matter who Inigo's father is since he gets everything he needs from Olivia, so long as you don't pass down Special Dance.

Refer to [up].

Also, looked over the real Awakening Growth Rates. God damn is there a lot of interesting stuff.

(Noire's HP growth at 30% before parent and class calculations, oh my!)

(Contrast Brady's actually nice 55% growth rate before parent and class calculations, though the fact that his mother is Maribelle who shares Noire's 30% HP growth means he'll usually end up in with a fairly low HP growth anyways.)

Also, was expecting more Resistance on Dread Fighter and more Defense on Bride in terms of Growth Rates, but eh.

[up]Weird, especially considering how jacked the base Awakening growths are, in general.

I've made a few mentions on an FE story that has been juggling in my head. It's basically a heavily distorted retelling of three Kingdoms, from the point of view of Wei, but...Inspiratiooon?

A lot of the details are still iffy, but my major problem is how it all starts. Massive empire falls, the usual bets for the next in line crumble with it, a kerfufle about succesion brews, and the major lords vie for who's up next. It would be easier to copy paste three kingdoms completely by letting the central goverment "technically" still under power, but the hero declares his land independent from the ruling of the heavens, midway, so...Hmm.

Was it possible in ye olden days for issues regarding who inherits the whole cheesecake to get that messy if enough things went to crap?

Ok, fair enough. I already have someone I want to marry the Avatar to, so who's a good choice for Chrom. Sumia as well, since she doesn't have many choices if I understand correctly.

Chrom can wed Sumia, Sully, Maribelle or Olivia, and Sumia can wed Chrom, Gaius, Fredrick or Henry. The two can also, of course, wed an Avatar of the opposite sex.

There's reason to think the two were going to be a Sigurd-Dierdre done-deal earlier in development and the two getting multiple options came later than the rest of the cast- Sumia evident having watch duty in the Lucina-joins scene being the big one, for me, at least.
