Toyohime also speaks about the evolution of life as if it's something that disappointed Tsukuyomi.

[up][up][up]"Ruled over" is a weird way to put it. I'm sure they just scoffed at them condescendingly. ...I think it is a pretty important point that they don't really seem to consider humans special though.

We're really not.

I mean sometimes we create life just by having weird thinks but that could happen to anyone

Specifically anyone on Altair IV

Really appreciating the info in this discussion, as it's cleared out a lot of missassumptions I had about the ZU Niverse. I didn't consider the Gods all that big a deal because I mistakenly thought Kanako was the major Shinto deity who created Heaven (probably because of her vague power description). Power level makes more sense now that I realize she's a deified human and that major Shinto God's don't suffer like her from "God's need faith badly."

It also makes a lot more sense now why ZUN always suggests that Eirin is OP now that I know she's based on a major Shinto Goddess who is basically the equivalent of the Sophia and is likely millions of years old. Big thanks Clarste.

I think it is a pretty important point that they don't really seem to consider humans special though.

I do find it strange that they have humanoid forms, then. And even seem to favor them. My best guess about that is either they're like "Eh, opposable thumbs are neat." or that they're some sort of 'reflective illusion' in appearance; so since only humans (or other humanocentric beings) have run across them that we've seen, they're just human in form at the time.

I write some fanfiction. Satori's Tale is done... but I'm not.

Ah, but Lunarians did originate from Earth, right? So they're an ancient species that somehow managed to look just like humans?

So, who are the gods that Yorihime summon? Fellow Lunarians, or actual gods a la Suwako? Yorihime did summon Amaterasu, who is supposedly Tsukuyomi's sister, and Tsukuyomi is a Lunarian...

Eh, sort of. Japan in particular prides itself as being a land of "descendants of the gods". People venerate their ancestors, plus nostalgia leads people to assume that past societies were greater than present ones, so stories about the past end up as Our Ancestors Are Superheroes. The more important your family's ancestors were, the higher your rank, with the Emperor tracing their lineage back to both Susano'o and Amaterasu herself.

Kanako and Suwako's conflict (or rather, Take-Mikazuchi and Take-Minekata's) is a mythologisation of the Yamato (the modern Japanese people) conquering and absorbing other regions. Gods of the natives were naturally considered inferior to those of the conquerors. Or rather, the natives' loss proved that their gods were backwards and rolled around in the mud.

Lunarians are actual gods. You seem to be assuming they aren't, somehow. Yorihime just summons whoever she wants. Remember that gods can split indefinitely, in order to be worshiped at many shrines at once, so being summoned doesn't actually interrupt their lives in any way.

To be fair to TrueShadow, I don't have any idea what is going on. I get the whole "eight million gods" thing, but this is confusing.

In the meanwhile, I am waiting for that one Fate/Grand Order crossover what seems too obvious to make note

Japan does seem to love the idea of ancient super civilizations with technology far in advance of ours. Or at least it seems to be a common trope

[up][up][up]The idea was seriously pushed for a while that Japan was that ancient civilisation, and that all other civilisations and religions are descended from Japan. IIRC Jesus and Buddha travelled there to train or something, and the Emperor had computers and a spaceship.

And then Rinnosuke found some of their scrap metal and built a Bunsen burner out of it.

[up][up]The way Marisa uses the Mini-Hakkero it's basically a Bunsen burner that happens to have an "eleven" setting on the dial. And a twelve, and a thirteen...

So wait. If Lunarians really are gods, more specifically Amatsukami, then don't they need faith, or am I remembering wrong, and only Kunitsukami need faith to survive? Or maybe the Lunarians were mistaken as gods by humans?

Kanako specifically labels Sagume as an Amatsukami, although she seems somewhat surprised by that, as if the Amatsukami living on the moon is something she never expected. Despite her mythological origins, I want to say that Kanako isn't an Amatsukami, because that would explain things a lot better.

Eirin is definitely 100% a god, and she's never cared the slightest about faith, so I would guess that the most powerful and ancient of the gods are above that, either because Amatsukami don't need it or they just get enough passive faith by being part of the main pantheon.

It stands to reason that as you go up the ladder, you're going to hit someone that was able to create the world and humanity without needing faith to exist. Cause yeah.
