So here's this. The start of another story in the series that started with Alice's Glorious Homestead defense. The rest of it is written, but I'll be spacing it out to give myself time to edit.

It has some weird extra-canonical features carried over from AGHD, but this first chapter also features our very own Momo, Mizouno and Nouko, so I hope you'll give it a shot!

Considering it´s X to the Zoltan I have high expectations for this. What can I say? Guy is good.

Also, back with the cannibalistic topic.

More generally though, cannibalism is just one of those big taboos that most societies turn into monsters. Wendigos, ghouls, even the Greek Cyclops and other ogres of that sort... Those who eat humans are by definition monsters.
Eating human flesh is one of the easiest ways to get a prion disease. Gotta love Kuru, I guess...

Aren't prion diseases from eating brain matter?

Also I read somewhere that eating carnivorous animals is apparently bad for you.

A prion is a misshaped protein that acts like a virus, basically.

I've read that other cases, like the people in the Andes airplane crash, haven't seen many physical health effects from cannibalism. Isn't kuru kind of localized? (EDIT - Wait, I forgot that there are other, similar illnesses that could spread the same way, anyway.) I suppose cannibalism isn't common enough that we could even find out the health risks, thank heavens.

What can I say? Guy is good.

Thanks!

[up] At least not documented. And I should thank you. It´s been a while since I read a good ol´ serious touhou fic. [up][up] Exactly. [up][up][up] There are a lot of prion like-families. Some are found in carnivorous animals flesh. Others are from genetic origin (Gerstmann-Sträussler-Scheinker Syndrome g.e.) and so. Kuru is the one from eating contaminated human brains, that´s correct. Also, back to main topic your avatar reminds me of Gonnzou´s Tewi! :D

Conversations like this really makes you think what you think you remember. I think for some time I remembered that human flesh digests fairly fast, but now that think about it, I think it was horse meat.

It's why Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in the Colorado high country is so baffling. It doesn't appear to consistently transfer from deer to deer, elk to elk by known disease vectors. It's a prion disease.

Mad cow disease is basically bovine kuru. It comes from the fact that we feed cattle all the leftover meat that won't sell, including nerve tissue. So in that sense cannibalism is incredibly common and we have a lot of subjects.

It's not just something you always get from eating people though. I mean, this isn't divine punishment for violating a taboo. It's like, incest or something. It puts you at risk because it makes you more likely to get other diseases that would exist anyway, but wouldn't normally be passed down. You get kuru by eating someone with kuru, and someone just randomly got kuru from a genetic mutation at some point and they ate him.

Taboos are a funny thing. They upset our view of how the universe should be so much that we (general we) latch on to any physical risk that comes with them as though the world itself were punishing them. I've always wondered why we don't focus more on the psychological dangers.

On a happier note: over in the Compendium, the subject of vocal mixes came up. Any mixes of character themes out there that you can imagine the character sounding like? TAMUSIC's 微熱はーとすぱーく somehow managed to sell me on the idea of a Marisa with a high, sugary voice. I don't even like the track that much!

In the fandom dumpster, you find two more chapters of Marisa's Delightful Gensokyo Tour, a quite dashing picture of the SDM crew, and a monstrous mix of Primordial Beat. Maybe it's not all bad!

But digging further, you start finding nothing but yukkuri stuff and pictures of Ran exploding out of her clothes due to Chen's cuteness. Your lip curls and you hit the compactor button.

Would anyone happen to know how to say "Baked Sweet Potato" in French or Italian? Or, to be more specific, what a French of Italian person would call that Japanese thing where they roast a sweet potato under a pile of leaves. This is very important and related to Touhou.

Well, the German Wikipedia page still calls it "Yakiimo". So perhaps that should be it? I mean, baking sweet potatoes under a pile of leaves isn't exactly a common activity in France or Italy I'm guessing so I'd doubt they'd have a specific counterpart for "yakiimo" that isn't "baked sweet potato".

I did ask an Italian friend if they had a special name for it, but she probably won't be able to get back to me for a while.

Thanks for the responses, but we got help from a French person who happened to be standing nearby.

The specific issue was that there's a joke in FMW3 about Minoriko saying yakiimo in English as "Baked Sweet Potato", but that doesn't really make sense if they're already speaking in English, so we turned it into French. Which is apparently "la patate douce bien cuite".

Yes. In The Kasha at that Time, Orin is a member of a popular singing group named "Bremen" based on the folk tale "The Bremen Town Musicians".
